Jambu is one of the more unusual botanicals we work with. Extracted from the flower heads of Acmella oleracea, Jambu Oleoresin is valued for a single, very distinctive property: it creates a tingling, mildly numbing sensation on contact. That effect comes from spilanthol, the compound the flower heads are richest in.
Because of this, Jambu finds use in places most oleoresins don't. Oral care formulators use it for the tingle in toothpastes and mouth rinses. Cosmetic manufacturers use it in lip and skin preparations where a sensory effect is part of the product's appeal. In food and beverage, it is used to create a tingling, buzzing sensation on the tongue, adding to the mouthfeel and to how the product is experienced.
